Is StarNet free and open source?
Yes. The entire core harness and station application are MIT-licensed. You bring your own API keys (OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, or local Ollama) and pay only standard token rates with zero markup.
Is the agent work genuinely executed?
Yes. Every turn executes real tool calls: files are inspected and modified on disk, terminal commands run in isolated workspaces, and the browser is driven via Chrome DevTools Protocol. The ledger records verified evidence.
Where is my private data stored?
Exclusively on your machine. Workspaces, SQLite databases, memory graphs, and transcripts stay on local disk. No telemetry or analytics are phoned home.
What hardware is required?
Any Apple Silicon or Intel Mac running macOS 11+, or any 64-bit Windows 10/11 system. Node.js 18+ is required if building from source.
Why does my OS warn me during install?
SmartScreen can still warn while an Authenticode certificate builds reputation; inspect the publisher before proceeding. A public Mac DMG is required to pass Apple notarization, so a Gatekeeper trust failure should be reported rather than bypassed. Release checks do not prove that an installer works on your computer. Do not clear quarantine — the troubleshooting guide explains both cases.
